At the edge of the archaeological park, springs rise from the ground and flood the Sanctuary of Isis — and that water is exactly why the spot feels enchanted. The Egyptian goddess, whose cult travelled across the Hellenistic world, was worshipped here from the 2nd century BC alongside Aphrodite and Eros.
Copies of the cult statues stand today where the originals were found (the originals are in the museum), reflected in pools dotted with water lilies and patrolled by frogs and terrapins.
The sanctuary shows how cosmopolitan Macedonia truly was: Greek, Egyptian and Roman worlds meeting at the foot of the mountain of the gods.
